Vertebroplasty is a procedure to reattach, rebuild and stabilize fractured or fragile vertebrae or vertebral bodies using bone cement. To inject the bone cement into the affected fractured vertebra, the surgeon inserts a hollow needle directly into the vertebral body. The bone cement hardens quickly. This rebuilds the fractured vertebral body and keeps it in shape. The operation stabilizes not only the vertebral body itself, but also the entire spine.
